All About me

Welcome to our blog!

Here you’ll find tonnes of tricks and tips to connect, celebrate and create.

I am the Creative Director of Poppy and Daisy Designs and as a biz-Mum, I’ve learnt so much on my crazy journey. I’m an over- sharer. I’ve always been a person that just has to pass on things to people if i’ve loved or learnt something that’s sparked joy for me!

I’ll be writing about how to stay connected to family overseas, tips to throw the best (easiest) kids party,  how to create the business you’ve always wanted or fun crafts to do with your kids. Here is where I will share what I know, and I hope you share with me too!

Truth is, I’m not perfect, and the mummyhood/business-owner juggle can be overwhelming, but by creating a community I hope we can cheer each other on and commiserate over wine.

My Story

I’m Helen, a Brit from the sunny UK, married to an Aussie who I met during my working holiday in Oz. Fast forward 13 years and I’m still here and now we have 2 little Aussies (complete with Aussie accents, but I make them pronounce their T’s) called Poppy and Daisy, now 5 and 7!

Hubby and I spent 10 years in metropolitan Melbourne and finally made the move to live the dream in The Sunshine Coast to be close to his family.

Being a Brit I never knew that one day I’d be living the life as if I was on the set of Home and Away! It’s truly amazing and I’m grateful every day to be able to step out of our bedroom and into my own pool for a morning dip or go to the beach whenever we want.

So how did Poppy & Daisy Designs come about I hear you ask?

I’ve always loved a bit of creative, crafty-washi tape-goodness. I have also always made and given handmade cards and gifts.

I was making some fabulous (even if I say so myself), neon washi tape Christmas cards a few years ago and I thought to myself these are good enough to sell. I popped into a local shop and they bought some, so I popped into another shop and they bought some. Next thing I knew I was getting an ABN and coming up with a business name!

I wanted to use only 100% recycled cards and support Aussie businesses and partners by buying materials from them. This resulted in being approved to use the “Australian Made” logo .

My business ideas have evolved along the way and my new direction is Australiana. It came about when I couldn’t find half decent classy Aussie themed cards. It was especially hard at Christmas time to find Aussie things to send back home to friends and family. I decided to design some and now this is the inspiration for my business direction. Watch this space.

We moved to the Sunshine State a couple of years ago which has allowed me to give my business a full time “crack”.  I now wholesale into over 50 stores, attend markets and sell my cards via my website. Well-done me.

The struggle is real though and running a business from home, wearing all the hats, and looking after the house and kids is the hardest things i’ve ever done! But that’s a whole other blog post about life as a mumpreneur!

Some random facts about me:
  • I LOVE tea and chocolate
  • Red wine and cheese are my idea of heaven
  • I’m a chai latte drinker and don’t drink coffee
  • One of my favourite things to do is talk (I know, what am I doing working from home?)
  • Fresh flowers (particularly yellow ones) make me smile
  • Exercise and I do not see eye to eye
  • If ever I have spare time, you’ll find me listening to a podcast
  • Love escapism with trashy reality tv shows like Married at First Site
  • I have a fear of spiders (why Australia why?)
  • Cosy-rainy -tea drinking -pyjama days are bliss to me
  • The best night for me is having the girls over for wine, cheese and chatting
  • My Favourite songs are Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s soundtrack from “A Star is Born”

Thanks for stopping by and please reach out.  I’m available to chat all things business, mummyhood and collaborating over a glass of wine or chai latte!

Much love,

Helen Signature
