Paper Crafts for Kids on School Holidays

Using paper crafts to to keep the kids calm and occupied during school holidays!

My girls are always asking me for more fun activities to do during the school holidays. I try to mix it up, so they don’t get bored especially now that we’re still working from home! The advice I always give my kids is to be creative and share the joy of your creativity with others. When you share your craft or talent, you are happy, and the others will feel the same way!

One of our family’s favourite activities to keep busy with is to make paper crafts! We like to incorporate lots of crafts into our holiday or weekend activities to keep children calm, focused and relaxed before the new school year. Paper crafts are a lot of fun to make, but also require lots of focus from the little ones – great for calming their moods down which can sometimes be extra energetic during the holidays!

These past few weeks have been quite challenging for most, so it’s important to provide children with activities that can add a calming ritual or meditative flow into their day. Have a read of my favourite paper crafts, perfect to do at home with the kids for a calming, relaxing afternoon activity!

Handmade Paper

If you’re looking for a creative way to use up your scrap paper, leftover Christmas wrapping paper and keep the kids occupied, look no further! Add some flowers and leaves from the yard or garden into beautiful handmade such as birthday cards, bookmarks or tags for their siblings, family or friends. This taught my kids to share their creativity while making a craft from simple materials. Crafting handmade paper is a calming and sustainable activity that children can do together, or on their own with a parent to share their creative flow.

If you’re lucky to live near the beach like my girls, why not take some of the sand back home to craft into a beautiful work of art! Allow their young minds to explore their creative side using sand stencils to create stunning cards, bookmarks or for scrapbooking their holiday to show their friends at school. You can make your very own design, or use images of animals, stars and many more! These Sand Stencils are perfect to use on ordinary paper or cardboard. It’s a great activity for all children to do that doesn’t require electronic devices, and helps to practice mindfulness and productivity.

Flower Pressing Paper

I’m a huge fan of flower pressing with my girls, especially the process where we can go explore our garden or local parks to pick some beautiful flowers! It’s a simple activity to do and is also beautiful when finished.

It teaches them patience as they wait for the flowers or leaves to dry, and also a great way to get the kids outdoors and learning about different flowers and greenery. You can put it in frames or scrapbooks for decoration, or even as a birthday card for their friends!

There will always be new paper crafts for kids to try out and express their creativity, but what I love most about these activities is that they use recyclable materials so I know my girls are practicing sustainability. I always love spending time with my girls, and passing the joy of creativity to them but I also am mindful that they need activities to keep their minds focused and relaxed especially going into the new year.
